The centerpiece of the Valley of the Sun is the city of Phoenix, Arizona which is nestled in a sprawling valley embraced by the Superstition, White Tank, McDowell, and Estrella Mountains. What started as a dusty little town of a few square blocks when it was incorporated in 1881 has grown into the fifth-largest city in the United States, encompassing nearly 500 square miles. Along with the natural majesties of Mother Nature, Phoenix houses a population of more than 1.5 million residents supported by a thriving “man-made” arts community, and in fact, the arts are both abundant and approachable in Phoenix.

Let’s start with the recently renovated Symphony Hall in downtown Phoenix, home to the Arizona Opera, Ballet Arizona and the Phoenix Symphony, all of which offer full seasons and a broad spectrum of programming that appeals to a wide audience. Just across the street from Symphony Hall is the Herberger Theater Center, home to several theatrical companies as well as a dance company. A bonus is that upstairs from the Herberger’s lobby area is a gallery that exhibits an ever-changing display of works from local artists.

Elsewhere in and near downtown Phoenix, small venues such as the Celebrity Theatre, Phoenix Theater and others showcase both touring artists and local troupes. The Dodge Theater is a theatrical chameleon of sorts, morphing into a comedy club, a concert venue or a theatrical production stage through as-needed repositioning of both seating and stage.

Numerous Phoenix artists and musicians participate in First Fridays, a monthly evening event when downtown galleries, studios and businesses open their doors and encourage visitors to wander down the streets, stopping to meet artists and artisans and learn about their work.

Those who get their art-fix at museums definitely have a bonanza waiting for them in Phoenix. From the world-famous Heard Museum, to the Phoenix Art Museum, to the Hall of Flame, there are museums for all ages and interests. Check out the specialty museums such as the Mining and Mineral Museum and the Arizona Capitol Museum, where you can learn about the origins of the state of Arizona. Many museums offer free admission one day of the week, so check with them and plan your excursions accordingly.

why not take advantage of being in the great American Southwest, with its unique and spectacular landscape, and do a day trip or two using Phoenix as your hub? You will easily find a Phoenix cheap hotel located right on Interstate 10, for you to use as a base for your explorations to a few world-class tourist destinations. and one of the true wonders of the world, is the Grand Canyon. If you travel up from Phoenix by car it is about 5 hours away, but it is absolutely feasible as a long day trip. Most people think that just the drive up is a treat in itself, moving as you do from the low desert in Phoenix up to 10,000 feet around the Flagstaff area, and then to a high desert landscape as you jog the last few hours over the Canyon. Be sure and pull over for a few glimpses of the Canyon; from any angle it is a site that is worthy of your expectations, believe me.

Another great side trip from Phoenix is the smallish town of Sedona, Arizona, just a couple of hours away, set amidst amazing red sandstone boulders and with an interesting counter-cultural feel about it. If you are inclined you will find great spas and fine restaurants in Sedona and surprisingly, even a burgeoning wine industry. It is true that prices are a little bit higher in Sedona, but as a destination it is so attractive that many people make the trip all the way from East Coast to visit. For a taste of the Wild West in a place where some of it actually happened, head south from Phoenix to Tombstone, Arizona, site of the OK Corral. There are tours and the town is a real step back in time. “The Town too Tough to Die” is probably the closest you will come to an authentic experience of the old West, and it still attracts many visitors.

Arizona is a big state, but you will find within it are easily visited if you are prepared to do a bit of driving through some amazing desert landscapes. Phoenix has reasonably-priced hotels as well as excellent southwestern regional cuisine that you will enjoy while talking over the adventures you had earlier in the day. A Phoenix cheap hotel is a perfect base to explore both the Phoenix area as well as the state of Arizona. You’ll have your pick of independent motels and hotels, as well as the large chain hotels that you know; either way you’ll find many Phoenix cheap hotels that fit your budget and are great value.

Snowfall in Phoenix itself is extremely rare; the city only averages 5 days per year where the temperature drops below freezing and since records began, snow has only fallen seven times – the last of which was January 2001 (the first snow fall in 22 years).

However, much to the enjoyment of Phoenix’s skiers and snowboarders, there are several ski resorts within a few hours drive which are perfect for a day or weekend trip and should satisfy snow lovers’ cravings for the white stuff.

Arizona Snowbowl is located in the San Francisco Peaks in the Coconino National Forest, just a two hour drive from Phoenix. The ski area offers over 2,300 feet of vertical drop and 32 scenic trails that cover 777 acres and the Arizonan desert climate means the resort also enjoys plenty of sunny skiing days.

Those who prefer their skiing more sedate can visit the Flagstaff Nordic Center, located just seven miles north of Snowbowl. This area offers winter sports fans an extensive network of Nordic ski trails, as well as snowshoeing and sledding. Flagstaff also supports a healthy racing scene with competitions of various lengths held throughout the winter for cross country skiers.

The largest ski area in Arizona is Sunrise Park Resort, located in McNary in the Arizona White Mountains. Owned and operated by the White Mountains Apache Tribe, the areas comprises of eight lifts, and over 13 miles of cross country skiing trials.

And finally, if you want to ski in the most southerly ski resort in the Untied States, head for Mount Lemmon Ski Valley. Though Tucson is more likely to conjure up thoughts of sand rather than snow (several well-known beach resorts are located here) – just an hour’s drive away from the sea there is skiing and snowboarding to be found. The area is small, with a vertical drop of just 290m, 3 lifts and a ski-able area of 200 acres, but despite its southerly location, the resort still manages to open from December to April and the scenic views that overlook the area make Mt. Lemmon a popular ski destination.

Accommodation is available in (or near) all of these winter towns in the form of cabins, lodges and motels. Be warned though – people come here to ski rather than party so if you’re looking for a wild time, a better option would be to stay at a hotel in Phoenix and just commute to the ski areas during the day.

If there is one thing that a big city needs, it is big companies to match that size. Corporations help a city strive. When you purchase something from a company based in your city or state, more money stays in the city and state. The money that stays domestically is about 43 percent, while purchasing something from out of the city or state only keeps about 13 percent in the domestically. It is obvious why you would want to know what companies are in you city. One of the fastest growing cities in the country, Phoenix is no exception. There are many different corporations and law firms in the state that are in the Fortune 500 or the NLJ 250.

A big category in companies is the Fortune 500. But, if you go a little bit further, there is also the Fortune 1000. The Fortune 1000 is the top 1000 companies according to revenue and profit in the world. Phoenix has eleven companies that are in the Fortune 1000, with five being in the Fortune 500. This means that the headquarters for these companies are in Phoenix. Two of these companies actually got their start in Phoenix and continued to grow across the country. These two are Petsmart and US Airways Group. The other companies in the Fortune 500 are Avnet, Freeport-McMoRan, and Insight Enterprises. These five companies really helped the city get to where it is today, and they will continue to help it as the years go by. This leaves the other six in the Fortune 1000. These are Amkor Technologies, Apollo Group, ON Semiconductor, Pinnacle West Capitol Corporation, Republic Services, and RSC Holdings. With companies like this, it is easy to see why Phoenix continues to strive. All of these companies give back to the community, and when people buy their products, more money stays in Phoenix.

The NJL 250 is the top 250 law firms in the country. Of course, just like the Fortune 500, it is according to revenue and profit. Phoenix has three law firms in the NJL 250, and just like the Fortune 500, they help Phoenix grow as well. These three are Snell and Wilmer, Lewis and Roca, and Fennemore Craig. People trust these law firms and it shows because they are in the NJL 250.

Even though the next companies may not be in the Fortune 500 or the Fortune 1000, they still significantly help Phoenix. These companies include Hypercom, Microchip Technologies, and Discount Tire Company. If you, or other, bigger companies buy from these, the money tends to stay in Phoenix or Arizona and it really helps everyone.

As you can see, there is no shortage of major corporations or law firms in Phoenix. You may not realize what you are living by, but Phoenix is a huge city with great major corporation scattered around. See the other companies that got started here, and help Phoenix grow even more.

Want to know about the cost of a University of Phoenix Online degree to be able to determine its cost effectiveness with related to your future plans? The following is an overview of the estimate you need to expect when enrolling at University of Phoenix.

First of, you will have to shell out $110 for a one-time application fee. Just like in any other institutions, in this university, students get charged by the credit hour.

Different rates apply for each degree level. For the undergraduate degree, each credit hour costs $460; graduate degree at $570; and doctoral credit hours at $645. This does not include incidental charges as late fees and graduation-audit fees. A good idea is to ask for information about tuition fee cost prior to enrollment to avoid confusion.

For the tight budgeted students, low-cost financial assistance and financial aid services are available. The university can assist you in determining eligibility as well as processing your applications. To make it easier and more affordable for the students, payments are divided per course instead of per semester.

In one study, the average tuition fee of an online undergraduate student at the University of Phoenix is just under $30,750, and fifty percent of online students are under financial aid or grant.

At the University of Phoenix, the shortest time for degree completion is as little as two years, but depending on the student’s schedule, it can take up to five years. When a student transfers his/her credits at the time of enrollment, the course duration may be shortened further.

The university boasts of a faculty roster composed of instructors holding a minimum of a master’s degree and are respected professionals in their field of specialty. They have CEO’s, executives and business owners in all related disciplines.

These days there are a lot of mortgage loan options that don’t require such an extensive down payment. Many government sponsored loans, such as FHA or VA loans, require a down payment of 5%. There are some additional mortgage programs that allow buyers to put down even less than 5%, some programs even allow a “no down payment” option.

If it’s possible to get into a loan without putting any money down, why would you want to? Well, there are several reasons you should consider a down payment:

It gives you a start to build equity in the loan. Hopefully you won’t have any unforeseen circumstances, but if you had to sell your home suddenly, you’ll pay about 10% of the selling price in fees. If you don’t have a down payment, selling the home means you could potentially lose money. A down payment provides a little cushion of security against emergency situations.

It gives you greater mortgage options. When you have a down payment you have more mortgage programs to choose from. You can find a more competitive interest rate when you have some money to put down on the house.

It gives you better bargaining power for the purchase of the home. When it comes to extend an offer for a home, your down payment affects your offer. The buyer may see how much you plan to put down and use the information to help them choose an offer.

It can be a significant factor in qualifying for a loan. Many mortgage programs look carefully at your debt ratio, along with your savings and down payment. Having a down payment can make the mortgage qualification process easier.

Saving for your down payment can be challenging, and it’s simply not possible to always have a down payment. Even when you can’t save for a down payment, there are other sources you can use – for instance, some 401k programs allow you to borrow money for a down payment, or you can receive a gift of a down payment from a relative.

If it is at all possible for you to put money down on your new home, even if it’s just a small percentage, you’ll find that you have more options and more doors open to you.

How long do you expect to live in the home? Some people purchase a “starter home”, planning to sell in five years and move up to a larger home. Other people plan to pay the home off and make it their retirement home. If you plan to only be in the home for a few years, you may want to consider an adjustable rate loan. If you plan to stay in the home for a long time, you may want to investigate a fixed-rate loan which will give you long-term payment stability.

Are you the type of person that is comfortable with risk? If you need to know exactly how much your payment will be from month to month or even year to year, you probably want a fixed -rate loan. If you feel comfortable with risk, you may want to look at an adjustable rate loan – the interest rate may be lower initially, but there’s a chance that the rates could increase over time.

How much do you expect to make? You income potential is important. If you anticipate (reasonably) that your income with increase substantially, you may want to consider a graduated payment mortgage which allows the payments to increase over time.

Do you have cash upfront? If you have a substantial savings, you could put a large down payment, and opt for a shorter period of time on the loan – perhaps a 15-year fixed rate loan. Within a relatively short amount of time, you’ll have the loan paid off and you’ll save thousands of dollars over the life of the loan in interest.

Each person has a unique set of circumstances that make one type of loan more ideal than another. When you talk with a qualified loan officer, you’ll get lots of options. Carefully weigh your options against your circumstances, and you’ll find the best mortgage for you in your new home.

If you don’t want to live in the city itself, there are incredible opportunities in the East Valley area. You’ll find the new mixed with the old in places like Chandler, Gilbert, Queen Creek, Tempe, and Scottsdale. These communities and more like them have morphed into some of the finest places to live that you’ll find in the region. Many of them have rural, agricultural, or mining roots, and the city planners aren’t forgetting the heritage that put them on the map in the first place. By the same token, they have turned them into perfect locations to live, work, raise a family, or retire. Phoenix real estate is a great mix of the old and the new.

As we all know, real estate can be pretty volatile in terms of deciding on the best time to buy or sell. Those of you looking for investment properties have concerns about your money providing you with the best return. It’s safe to say that the Phoenix market is a good choice now and will be for a long time to come. This is one of the fastest growing areas in the country. Thanks to the diversity of the population, especially where age is concerned, it should remain a strong market.

Wherever there is this kind of growth there are marvelous job and new business opportunities for those in their prime years. Phoenix and its East Valley are also attracting a lot of people with money to spend. That’s why the highest end retailers feel safe building and planning to build their upscale shops there. As for homes, mansions and estates are plentiful. That doesn’t mean there’s no place for those with more limited funds. The Phoenix area has homes, condos, apartments, and investment real estate for people in any income bracket. There’s still plenty of room and a lot of choices for you in the Phoenix real estate market.

So don’t waste any more time. Come on down to Arizona and check out Phoenix area real estate. We guarantee that you won’t be disappointed. It isn’t just some hot desert wasteland…it’s a thriving oasis!
